Skeletons - A Collector's Guide to Raised Pillar Fly Reels. Richard K. Lodge (Auth.)
Welcome to the relaunch of Whiteadder's VFFM "Book of the Month". This time around I am planning to feature books that have more relevance to the spirit and ideas behind the web site and with this in mind, this Month's Book is a cracker.
Some of you may have been interested in the recent new pages about American made reels, and this particular book has proved invaluable in researching the reels featured. It is not a large volume but nonetheless offers a comprehensive summary of manufacturers of skeleton reels both in the USA and abroad. Just the opening pages, a pictorial guide to identifying manufacturers, makes this a most useful book, and the very readable illustrated histories of the manufacturers that follow make it invaluable to anyone with an interest either in these reels or in the development of fishing tackle in the USA in general.
The book is published by The Whitefish Press, an enterprise dedicated to providing quality books on vintage tackle and tackle collecting. Its "Editor in Chief" Todd Larson is a well-known figure in the collecting community and I'm sure the Whitefish catalogue will yield many interesting titles for this feature in the coming months.
