Army & Navy Stores Limited General Price list 1939-40
This is one of those remarkable books that is so hard to classify. Social history, archaeology, antiques, bygones, these are all terms that could be applied here. As a snapshot of a certain lifestyle, this book is fascinating. Not a book to be read cover to cover, simply dipping into its pages can reveal an extraordinary wealth of information and simple fun. From an angling perspective, there are only four pages that are directly relevant, but reading these carefully reveals products supplied by Allcock's, Young's and possibly Dingley, and I am certain that a thorough examination of the text could reveal even more detailed data about ;ate pre-war fishing tackle. It's also worth a look in the books section to see what angling books were being promoted at the time.
Admittedly this books direct relevance here is limited, but catalogues of any type are so important to collectors and curators alike and thid gives so much more of an insight into the lifestyle of the time.
