Shakespeare “Tony Accetta Special”
The Shakespeare Company was founded by William Shakespeare Jnr in Kalamazoo Michigan in 1897. Although they have marketed hundreds of fishing items over the years, they never made their own rods, preferring to buy from “the Trade”. This particular “Trade” rod was made by Gene Edwards, son of Eustace Edwards who had been one of the original team that had supported Hiram Leonard in developing the bamboo fly rod. Tony Accetta was an accomplished performer on the professional casting competition circuit in the USA in the 30’s and 40’s who went on to market his own range of lures and to appear in a short, instructive film entitles “Let’s Go Fishing”.
