Some Useful Links
Here are just a few of the websites that I have found interesting, helpful or just plain good as I have blundered my way through the world of vintage fishing tackle.

Mullock's AuctionsThe leading auctioneers for Vintage Fishing Tackle with two sales a year watched over by John Mullock himself. In additon to the regular fishing Tackle Sales, Mullocks hosts frequent sales of Sports, Golf, Rugby and Football Memorabilia, Toys, Militaria and Historic Documents. The Classic Fly Rod Forum
This is my absolute "go to" web site for all aspects of vintage fly fishing gear. The site is in fact a portal for a whole range of fora devoted to Appraisal of Rods, Classic Reels, Collecting and Fishing Vintage Tackle plus a whole lot more. Although the site is located in the USA , the level of knowledge and expertise on both American and British made tackle is second to none.

Nobby's Tackle
I came across this site while doing the research for the museum. It has a wealth of information about British tackle makers from the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, most of which was intended for coarse fishing, but many of the makers Nobby talks about also made fly fishing items.

I always enjoy visits to this Blog - there are gems of information about old fishing shops and tackle and always something entertaining to read.
The Fishing Museum Online
This site is supported by The Medlar Press, responsible for the publication of a number of significant books on and around the subject of vintage fishing tackle. The site itself is visually stunning and provides a wealth of information on fishing history.
Feathers, Flies and Phantoms
Colin Innes' most excellent web site. Colin is now a published author at Coch-y-Bonddu
This site is dedicated to fishing tackle developments in Scotland, mostly in the city of Aberdeen, home of Sharpes, but also of many other tackle makers as you will discover. There's also a lot of information about the styles and development of Scottish salmon flies.

Scottish Borders Fly Fishing
Guiding, tuition, fishing and all else piscatorial in the Scottish Borders, one of the most picturesque and historic fishing destinations in the world.
Robbie Bell is not only a qualified instructor, he has fished for England on both Loch and river. His personal Blog alone is a wealth of information on techniques, locations and the joy of fishing. Thanks Robbie!

The Ellem Fishing Club
The Ellem Fishing Club is quite simply the oldest continuous trout fishing club in the world. Formed by a group of Edinburgh professionals in 1829 at the Ellem fishing inn at Ellemford on the Whiteadder. This little piece of angling history happened about five miles upstream from Preston Bridge where I caught my first trout...
The Club is still very active and has a splendid display of vintage fishing tackle, club memorabilia and an interactive presentation on the ecology of the Whiteadder at Paxton House, one of Berwickshire's great houses, on the banks of the Tweed just outside Berwick

All About Montague
I came across this site entirely by chance when researching another topic, but I am more than happy to include it here for the quality and range of content, resources and sheer enthusiasm. Any one interested in the Montague company in its many forms, should look here. Indeed anyone interested in vintage fishing tackle should take a look too!
Sadly as of 2021 I am told this site can no longer be reached.

Antique Rod and Reel Library
A site that has been of great use to me over the years, and one I really should have included before now. Recently completely re-designed the site offers an encyclopedic reference for the identification of rods and reels, as well as offering access to the Leonard post-1964 Rods Database and the Orvis Rods Database. If you have any interest at all in Vintage Fishing Tackle, this site is worth a look, - it really is like one of those coffee-table books, worth it for the pictuers alone!
Scottie Products
It was Sharpes of Aberdeen that first made the Scottie Brand of impregnated cane rods popular and when cane rod making ceased in Aberdeen, the brand moved to S&J Tackle in Harrow. times change, people retire and the little dog has moved on once more, and is now in the care of PWW Designs. So f you would like a new-make version of an angling classic, talk to Peter Waterhouse at Scottie Products.
(Editor's note: WVVFM has a number of Sharpes' rods which have yet to be presented on the museum pages, watch the News page for developments)

Antique Fishing Reels
Certainly if you are interested in American made reels, I cannot argue with Ed's contention that his is "The Most Comprehensive Reel Site on the Internet". This is a well presented site, with loads of reference pictures, though I don't always agree with the contents of the text, still a site worth visiting.
Chris Clemes Fly Rods
Much more than a store front for Chris' beautiful split cane rods, there's a wealth of information and entertainment in the Blog pages and videos that Chris has posted, and if you fancy a new-build cane rod from a UK maker then this is one place to look.
