Millward Redditch, "Flyrover"
UK rod making had also matured by this time, and the town of Redditch was firmly established as its principle centre. This rod is another example from Millward’s and is fairly typical of the style of rod emerging from Redditch at the time. Where American makers continued to develop their products, UK rod making seems almost to have moved backwards. Snake guides had appeared on UK rods after about 1880, but here we see a regression to the much heavier, more labour intensive full-bridge guides. Similarly, the ferrules in use are still of the dowelled form where US makers were now confidently using suction ferrules. This kind of divergence between UK and US rod making continued to grow as we will see from subsequent examples
